GTA 6 Single-Player Monetization: What We Know

Interview coverage says no monetization and no generative AI in the base experience

By GTA6HeadPublished August 29, 2026Last updated September 23, 2026

Kinda Funny hosts Andy Cortez and Greg Miller said on the Kinda Funny Gamecast that they asked Rockstar about monetization and generative AI during a GTA VI preview event. GamesRadar+ reports that Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson simply answered "no" to both. Yahoo Tech quotes Cortez as saying there are "no monetizations in this game."

GTA6Head classifies both claims as Reported. They come second-hand, from hosts recounting a preview-event conversation, and not from a Rockstar Newswire post or a Take-Two statement.

Paid editions still exist. The Ultimate Edition costs more than the Standard Edition and includes extra in-game content, so "no monetization" refers to in-game purchases, not edition pricing.

The future GTA Online monetization model is unknown. Nothing in this reporting says Shark Cards or any equivalent online purchase are gone, and we make no claim either way.

We will move either claim to Confirmed only if Rockstar or Take-Two publishes a direct statement. Any change will be noted with an updated date on this page.

Update, September 23, 2026: we clarified that the statement was relayed by Kinda Funny's hosts about a preview-event conversation, not given in a formal interview. We also added Yahoo Tech as a second source and noted that paid editions exist. The classification is unchanged.
